TREATMENTS
Possible treatments for shingles are:
-Antivirals which help reduce the length that someone experiences shingles symptoms
-Pain medicines to help bring down the pain of the symptoms
Common medicines (antivirals) that are used are: famciclovir, acyclovir, and valacyclovir. Other medicines that people often utilize are ibuprofin and acetominophen. Antibiotics are also often prescribed.
Doctors have also used PHN (postherpetic neuralgia) for cases of shingles that last for more than 1 month. This works to reduce pain.
In PHN doctors have used opiods, antidepressants and anticonvulsants to help reduce pain sensations.
